Week ending 2026-07-24 · Fri→Fri (07-17 → 07-24)

Q2 megacap earnings split the tape on one line: sell the companies writing the AI-capex checks, own the ones cashing them. Data-center REITs went from worst sector to best; semis got a bid while software/platform spenders sold.

🔻 Consumer Discretionary (XLY) −5.22%, Worst on the board, all Tesla. A profit-light growth story repriced hard. Top mover: TSLA −17.81%, Q2 EPS miss, margin collapse to 1.4%, no fresh robotaxi/Optimus.

🔻 Communication Services (XLC) −3.93%, Platforms sold on AI-capex anxiety; telecom carriers had their best week in memory. Top mover: T +10.64%, record broadband quarter, raised buyback, fifth straight EPS beat (GOOGL −7.79% / META −7.87% the other side).

🔺 Energy (XLE) +3.36%, Strongest sector, led from oilfield services not crude. Top mover: SLB +11.56%, Q2 beat on international strength plus a booming data-center-cooling line.

🔺 Utilities (XLU) +2.48%, Broad, clean advance; the AI-power trade reignited and bond proxies caught a rate-relief bid. Top mover: CEG +8.70%, nuclear-for-datacenter power story back in favor.

🔺 Industrials (XLI) +1.81%, Aerospace/defense earnings did the lifting. Top mover: RTX +9.96%, Q2 beat and raised guide on a record $289B backlog (UBER −9.00% the drag).

🔺 Materials (XLB) +1.44%, Metals-and-mining reversal; broad commodity-linked leadership. Top mover: FCX +7.23%, copper on the reflation/electrification read.

🔻 Consumer Staples (XLP) −1.24%, Defensive bid didn't show; big-box retailers pulled it red. Top mover: WMT −4.18%, retail-heavy staple led the sector lower.

🔺 Real Estate (XLRE) +1.17%, The whole week in miniature: data-center REITs led, tower REITs dragged. Top mover: DLR +14.49%, blowout Q2, raised FFO guide, record AI leasing; the universe's top gainer.

🔺 Health Care (XLV) +0.92%, Quiet, broadly green; a defensive-growth bid. Top mover: TMO +6.72%, life-science tools led on results.

🔺 Technology (XLK) +0.17%, Flat surface, mirror of last week: semis bid, software/platform spenders sold. Top mover: AMD +5.28%, capital rotated back to AI hardware (ORCL −9.03% the worst).

🔺 Financials (XLF) +0.09%, Money-center banks firmed; fee-and-data names sold. Top mover: JPM +3.55%, bank led (AXP −8.21% the sector's worst).

_Sell the spenders, own the beneficiaries and the value complex._
